McKinney (2008) points out, and quite rightfully, that any organizations system of communications are created through 1) establishing areas of responsibility and 2) specific delegation of duties. As a result,
the communications involved would focus on nature, content and direction (McKinney, 2008). In taking this question to mean "types of communication," this would
focus on job instruction, job rationale, procedures and practice, feedback and indoctrination (McKinney, 2008). These are standard types of communications in almost any organization, but they take on a particularly
important focus when it comes to criminal justice. Lets examine these "types" more carefully. The first aspect of job instruction is communication as
it pertains to performing a specific task (McKinney, 2008). A bailiff, for example, is told by the judge to remove a prisoner, bring in a prisoner, confine a prisoner or
to escort a rowdy observer from the court. This is specific, explicit communication that involves a specific task. What about job rationale? This
involves communication as it pertains to a certain task directed towards an organizations goals (McKinney, 2008). Lets go back to our bailiff, above. What is the rationale for his job?
To keep order in the court. Job rationale, many times, is not specifically stated, but is implied - the fact that the bailiff might have a night stick (or even
a gun, depending on the regulations) implies that hes an officer to be reckoned wity. Procedures and practices points out organizational policies, rules
