Founded in 1984 by Stanford husband-and-wife team Leonard Bosack and Sandra Lerner, the companys primary target market these days is large enterprises and telecommunications service providers (Dorsch 2010). The company also markets products for small businesses and consumers through its Consumer Business Group (Dorsch 2010). During the dot-com boom of the mid-to-late 1990s, Cisco was considered "the leading light of the new economy, being the supplier of most of the gear guiding data through the Internet" (The world according to Chambers, 2009; 59). In early 2000, it was also the worlds most valuable company - but a year later, much of its stock market value was swept away (The world according to Chambers, 2009; 59).
