epic novel. The one element that can jar a reader out of that fictional dream state is the use of bad, faulty or wooden dialogue. Therefore, arguably, the dialogue between
two characters must be as close to the real thing as possible, making it possible for the reader to connect in some way with the telling of the story.
The following is an example of good dialogue between two characters. Good dialogue will have several distinguishing features. First, not only is
the dialogue understood to be necessary to the scene and to the characters, but it can show the reader what the internal thoughts of the character might be without going
