that paper, we defined the concept of change management, and suggested that the practice in question ensure that everyone had "ownership" in change management, in other words, that any strategic change to occur should have employee input. In this paper, the student has been asked to determine where his/her company is headed in terms of strategic change management, and how ethics and human understanding influence foresight and planning in this particular company. Though were not familiar with this particular company, we can assume that its a typical ophthalmic office, with a medical staff (including the eye doctors and opticians), technical assistants and administrative staff. Its possible that like many medical practices, the employees are divided into three groups: the "professionals" (those who went to eye doctor school), the med-techs and the "support staff." If this is the standard way of thinking, then this practice definitely needs help with change management. There are three different groups here, with, likely as not, three different goals. Useem (2006), in his article about corporate board governances suggests that best practices involves formal processes when it comes to decision-making, as well as informal processes when it comes to decision-making. The student can take this however he or she wants, but this type of information can be boiled down to our ophthalmic practice as well. Top management (in this case, the practices owner) should certainly be responsible for making the final decisions. But on an informal basis, there is no reason why decision-making cant be pushed down the chain.
