                                                    those being used a generation or two ago" is false. Certainly, the CEO of 1960 and 2010 do have some things in common - both, for example, are responsible for  
                                                
                                                    ensuring that the organizations goals are met. But because of management trends during the latter part of the 20th century, the change in the workforce and the increase in global  
                                                
                                                    competitiveness, management practices have changed. Theyve had to.        One of the things that has probably been the largest change has been that of  
                                                
                                                    organizational structure and culture. During the mid-20th century, the organizational structure was vertical, with the chain of command starting with the CEO and moving down various levels to employees.                                                     "corner office" was the symbol of power - the higher up in the corporate hierarchy a manager moved, the more likely he (and most times it was a "he") would  
                                                
                                                    be likely to get an office with a window view. This fit in well with the classical leadership theory, the one stating that when the CEO would say "jump," the
