is consistently restricted in and out of the country. Though part of Southeast Asia, many Burmese arent aware of their neighbors, as theyre very restricted from having much knowledge about
them. Until recently, however, much of the world didnt know about Myanmars political situation -- as the government did a pretty decent
job of controlling the flow of information between inside the country and the outside world (Krebs, 2001). The government was able to do this by restricting visas and limiting access
to certain areas when travelers did manage to leave the country (Krebs, 2001). But these days, thanks to globalization and the rise
of the World Wide Web, scraps of information are beginning to come out of Myanmar. Internet accounts, both newsworthy and those found on YouTube.com, are beginning to open the Bamboo
Curtain of this Asian nation. Whats being found, in terms of censorship, is disheartening. As well see in this paper, Myanmar has one of the most restrictive cultures as it
pertains to the written word and freedom of the press. Even phone lines arent immune to government fiddling -- many people who are considered "dangerous" by the junta are just
as likely to find their phone lines disconnected as they might be to find their throats cut in a back alley at some point.
