Both companies had expanded revenue and losses for the fourth quarter and all of 1998. Both companies were facing stiff competition form Amazon.com. They both had to devise methods and advertising to get their names as well-known to the CD-buying public as Amazon.com. They both needed to satisfy their investors while remaining competitive in the online marketplace. PG). The companys online web page offers mainly CDs, but it does also sell music and movie videos, T shirts and DVDs. In an effort to overtake Amazon.com, CDNow

buyers is that CDNow offers bestseller discounts. Additional features of the CDNow web site is that it has such unique items as a customer wish list that the customer
may want to keep updated and a gift registry (Anonymous PG). CDNow has worked out an agreement with Excite, utilizing its Webcrawler search engine, and with Yahoo-two search engines
