around the world. This is because a vast number of people are illegally burning CDs, and less frequently DVDs, and then either giving them away or selling them. While burning
CDs and DVDs and then selling the product is clear theft because it steals from individuals who worked hard to create music and movies, there are many cases where burning
CDs and DVDs is done for gift giving or for preparing back up files for equipment already purchased. This is one of the reasons why the copyright laws are somewhat
difficult to really implement well. The following paper argues that individuals who burn CDs and DVDs for monetary gain should be severely punished, but that those individuals who have purchased
the DVD or CD and are only copying as presents or to make back ups should be allowed most of the time. CD and DVD Burning and Copyright
Law There are many people in the world today who are illegally burning CDs and DVDs in order to sell them and make money. This is wrong because these people
are not giving the creators of the CDs or DVDs what is theirs. It is the same as taking a famous work of art, that still has copyright laws attached
to it, and copying the pictures and selling them. Or it is the same as taking a book, a novel or non-fiction, that someone has written, copying all the pages
and then selling that. Such people, in most societies, would be severely punished for such an act. But, those who do the same with CDs and DVDs are often ignored
