part, to familiarize U.S. Catholics with Catholic social principals, one of which was that social teaching of the Church is an integral part of the Catholic faith. This paper will
prove, however, that the CST, as it is called, may take a beating because of what has occurred both in society and in the Catholic church during the past year.
While the concept of the Catholic Social Teaching is wonderful in theory, it seems to be a concept that cant hold up against external - and internal - influences.
The main point of the CST has been to try to integrate the Church into society; as well as to make the Church
more accessible to society (McGoldrick 22). This has been particularly apparent in parochial schools, in which Catholic identity is slowly eroding (Curran 90). Part of this is due to finances
- many Catholic schools are opening their doors to other faiths for revenue purposes and, as a result, are attempting to integrate these faiths, at least, on the scholastic side.
In addition, the teaching staff is no longer 100 percent Catholic in these schools (Curran 90). Especially emphasized in connection with this
document has been the case for corporate accountability, which include within them the concepts of subsidiarity, solidarity and human dignity (ODriscoll 12).
