as time has gone on and globalization become more and more prevalent, even slow-to-change China is starting to slowly open up its markets to Western nations. This has been especially
accelerated with Chinas recent ascension to the World Trade Organization. Its been thought that with this ascension, more of Chinas market will be open to Western nations, Canada among those.
Canada, as an aside, has had a decent trading relationship with China, and has had some a relationship for awhile. This does
not mean, however, that getting goods from Canada to China is as easy as placing a box on an airplane to Beijing and expecting it will arrive intact and be
gotten to market at once. There are still risks inherent in exporting to China. There are huge costs. And then there is the faulty Chinese distribution network, which can guarantee
that products dont make it to the provinces they need to go. Added to this is paperwork that needs to be submitted to Canadian authorities.
In short, importing a product - any sort of product - into China requires a lot of groundwork, a lot of networking companies in China and knowledge
of the rules. Even with this in place, theres no guarantee exports will get to market, as KFC learned (well examine this later in the paper). But with the right
shipping agents and partners in place, Canadian exporters can find some good market opportunities among one of the Tiger Nations; and hopefully make a tidy profit as well. Risks Involved
