a practical attempt at problem solving in the workplace environment. The report will start by explaining how the problem was identified and assessed and move onto the processes used in
the practical approach adopted in seeking to aid with a solution. The report will then outline the way knowledge was gathered to inform the assessment and the design of a
solution to the identified problem, and explain the way a solution was designed. The plan and implementation along with the current stage of progress is also discussed.
2. Problem Identification In any workplace there will be some problem; it is unlikely the perfect workplace exists. Examining a workplace in order to find potential sources of improvement requires
not only observations in order to identify relevant symptoms, but diagnosis to find the cause of observed symptoms. Within the organisation observed there were a number of different problems, which
were recognised by management as being issues which need to be tackled at some point, but have not yet reached a crisis point. These problems included increasing attrition rates, with
employee turnover rates rising each year, poor attitudes towards work including persistent lateness, poor task performance by employees and generally low motivation levels. The issues within the organisation were approached
using the problem problemitizing paradigms, as a way of assessing underlying causes and avoiding or minimising influence from pre-existing biases (McCutchen, 1996). In examining the problems a common theme which
emerged which focused on communication problems. Employees complained they did not know what was going on in company, that management complained a lot but rarely praised them and that instructions
given on task performance and expected standards were at best ambiguous, and at worst absent and management simply did not care about the employees. Management also complained about communication, stating
