Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 16 page paper looks at two cases concerning the way CAD/CAM may be used. The first looks at the way CAD, CAM and CAD/CAM could be used in the design and production of a case of a cellular (mobile) phone and then the use on aircraft design to improve safety. The bibliography cites 13 sources.

that is looking at developing a new mobile telephone casing the use of CAD/CAM can be explored including the ways in which the casing could be proven to be viable
and the way the methods could be used for different applications. CAD and CAM are often used in the same sentence and are often considered at linked but they
are to separate software technologies. CAD is computer-aided design; as such it is only a design tool that is used on a
computer used by engineers and/or designers. The tool is used for creating three-dimensional drawings, in the simplest format this is able to replace pen and ink drawings, saving on time
and effort drawing them and increasing accuracy (Loeffler, 2004). The programme utilises a library of data that allows for the data to be amended and adapted as well as
scaled. The programme can also contain other data used in the design, such as critical dimensions and the potential for interferences problems where there are meeting parts, this can also
be used to make sure that the visual appearance is acceptable. This can help reduce or eliminate the need for design with the development of three dimensional models and reduces
the need for the machining of pre production parts. The designs can also be stored for easy retrieval (Loeffler, 2004). In terms
of speed and reliability one CAD package was able to replace between four to five draftsmen, in many cases draftsmen may be made redundant as engineers could use the packages
to draft their own work. The level of accuracy is also much greater as the calculations for the angles and curves are all undertaken precisely and reproduced in the graphical
