in the world. Interestingly enough, he started life as a rather "average" individual and seemed to rocket to fame (Casil 10). He was the second man to walk on the
moon and when his time in NASA was over he fell into a deep depression, wondering where he could possibly go after being on the moon. In later years, however,
he has become a man who, to this day, is one of the strongest supporters of further space exploration and even colonization. The following looks at the life and the
words of this man. Birth and Early Childhood Buzz Aldrin was actually born Edwin Eugene on January 20, 1930. However, one of his sisters, who could not pronounce
"brother" called him "buzzer" and the name Buzz came out of that. The family even christened him Buzz (Casil 6). It is interesting to note that his father was also
a man involved in aviation and was an acquaintance of Charles Lindbergh as well as Orville and Wilbur Wright. "Buzzs father also studied under Robert Goddard, the man known as
the father of modern rocketry" (Casil 11). This is intriguing, especially when one sees, later in this essay, how his father was less than thrilled at his choice to be
in the Air Force. He was not an incredibly good student and his sisters apparently did better than him in school. In
addition, according to Casil, he thought he was a far better athlete than he was, or perhaps ever would be, a student. He adored football and apparently loathed any sort
of homework or academic study. However, he had to give up football when he got knocked out at a game. He then became involved in pole vaulting which took extra
