Appendix II. 12 Executive Summary This is a company called ABC Books. It is an e-commerce business that re-sells books, mostly college texts, and
also new hardcover books which are purchased in bulk. Single items are also purchased and resold. The company was started by RC Smith who is an entrepreneur and has started
other online businesses. The problem is to be able to profit from this new venture. There are ten individuals involved in the fulfillment department and their salaries alone may
not cover the profit from the book sales unless the sales are high enough to warrant the large staff and the new equipment. That said, it is important to remember
that Amazon.com started small and with the provision of excellent customer service, and outside contracts was able to create an empire that is unrivaled in the industry. In order to
become profitable, the firm must enter into contracts with other vendors, advertise, and gain affiliates. However, the immediate problem at hand goes to what type of equipment needs to be
purchased. With an Internet business, there are a number of computers that would need to be purchased. The solution is to purchase inexpensive computers at a minimal cost, but as
much as possible, keep them similar for the sake of simplicity. Additionally, when purchasing computers for the fulfillment department, they will get heavy use and so, new computers should be
purchased. Used computers can save money, but they will need to be upgraded much sooner. For purposes of this task, the focus will be on securing ten computers for
