revenues in excess of $1 million are projected in the first year, increasing 30% annually for the first five years. These goals would be absolutely unreasonable in St. Louis
or Atlanta, but in "shopping mecca" New York - and particularly in Manhattan - they appear to be quite reasonable, even conservative. The initial profit margin is 16% increasing to
36% by year 5. There is a 90-day breakeven point and robust business for its first five years of operation. Experiences in New York and in other parts of
the country indicate that consumers are more than ready for a retailer of the type that this company seeks to be. Globalization of
business and the angst of the general retail industry over the past several years have led large retailers to seek to become nearly ubiquitous in their presence, with a corresponding
homogenization of apparel offered to consumers. Shoppers understand that an item in one of these stores also is offered for sale in 100 others (or more), leading to immense
opportunity for the small and chic boutique that operates profitably in small quantities and carrying brands not available in most department stores. Groovy Rags has the aim of filling the
gap with a highly differentiated, but fashionable, range of clothes and accessories for men and women, with complimentary services, such as help personal shopping advice and a fix
rate alterations service adding to the differentiation.
