business intelligence is broader in scope. In other words, sales forecasting and knowledge management falls under the umbrella of business intelligence, so business intelligence includes an array of concepts.
Business intelligence combines a number of things to create a system whereby knowledge is acquired, managed and used carefully. It is more impressive than common sense because it relies on
systems and protocols that serve to enhance and support assumptions but not provide a substitute for true knowledge. It should also be noted that business intelligence is used in a
number of settings. Before going further, it helps to define business intelligence more precisely. II. Business Intelligence One definition of business intelligence is: "The processes, technologies, and tools
needed to turn data into information, information into knowledge, and knowledge into plans that drive profitable business action. Business intelligence encompasses warehousing, business analytic tools, and content/knowledge management" (Loshin, 2003,
p.6). Here, one sees a chain from the gathering of information, to deciding what information is useful, to acting on the information. While there is business intelligence that may be
utilized outside of the realm of the computer, much of business intelligence is computerized or automated. Business intelligence is something that makes use of state of the art technology. Some
examples of business intelligence are in the realm of client services in the form of intranets, extranets, telecommuting, e-government and e-commerce. One example contained in that list is that people
