considers an imaginary consulting firm, what its called, how its organized, its expertise, the services it offers and why its staff is suited to their work; this consulting firm will
work with Target Corporation on issues of business ethics. The Name and Organization of the Firm The new consulting firm is called "Business Ethics Consulting" so that prospective
clients know immediately what it does. In order to set up a consulting firm, the prospective consultant needs to do several things. The most important step is
probably to do the necessary market research to determine whether or not there is a market for the firms services (Bev, 2003). If there is, then go ahead; if
not, determine whether to locate in a different area, work on acquiring the expertise to consult in a different field, or do something else entirely. Two other steps include
deciding what type of business it is (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation); and setting up the office (Bev, 2003). Also, consultants charge between $100-$350 per hour; a new consultant should
probably start at the low end, but dont charge so little that the bills go unpaid (Bev, 2003). Lets assume that Business Ethics Consulting is just starting up.
At this point it probably only needs the principal consultant and someone to run the office; accounting and payroll can either be handled by a third person or by
