1. Introduction The business environment is competitive, with different competitors and a changing environment for an organisation to be successful, or an individual within that environment to be successful there is
the needs to optimise their performance. There is a close analogy with a sports team and the individual players within that team. When looking at successful sports teams and
stars part of the make up of their success his the input if coaches; guiding, cajoling, motivating and supporting. If we apply this analogy to the business world it may
be argued that managers may perform some of these tasks for the employees, however, the value is limited as by the very nature of a manager they are also a
part of the team and not specialising in coaching. If the use of coaches is so successful in sports it is unsurprising that businesses, whilst looking for ways to
improve, have also adopted similar techniques (Moore, 2004). This can be seen in terms of the benefits that is has realised for many companies, and also explains why there has
been a large increase in the levels of business coaching services and the increase in the level of business within the industry. In addition to there are also many companies
that have internal coaching arguments for their employees. However, for some the use of coaches is argued to be a soft option, one that is an easy solution, that
will nit result in concrete results as a result of the coaching that could not be achieving with other tools such as good business discipline or the instigation of the
