result has been catastrophic environmental degradation, global climate warming, and pollution in the air and water that have posed serious and even potentially deadly health hazards. While the CEOs
of multinational companies continue to insist that business is doing everything it can to reduce the devastating effects of pollution, evidence suggests otherwise. Without government regulations, business would likely
ignore the impact of pollution and focus solely on profitability, placating shareholders, and encouraging investment and corporate expansion. Unfortunately, the pollution issues are too serious for business to continue
to ignore. The federal government offers assistance to large and small businesses to become more environmentally friendly, and provides detailed guidelines on the EPA website (http://www.epa.gov) as to how
this can be achieved affordably and without sacrificing financial bottom lines. The moral bottom line is that business can no longer ignore pollution on ethical grounds. The public
good is being sacrificed by industrialization, with growing numbers of men, women, and children developing serious medical problems related to pollution. Species of wildlife and marine life are being
endangered as well. Business must make a better effort to solve pollution problems not simply because it is politically correct to do so, but because it has become a
