the divergent paradigms which may all be perceived as correct, at least in part. This makes the need for clear communication one of paramount importance. To communicate the ideas in an understandable and clear manner is difficult, hence the increasing use of pictorial models, where diagrams can be drawn, as seen with the range of Porters different models, or the use of an analogy. The analogy makes use of a different, and often more simply understood scenario, and likens it to a business scenario. One of the most difficult to understand situations is that of the business to business relationship. Wilkinson and Young (1994) suggested that the best analogy for this was of dancing. In many ways this may appear very astute and flexible analogy, but in considering the relationships and the applicability of this analogy we may ask ourselves if it is the best analogy that can be found. However, others will argue that the use of a single analogy is pointless, as there will never be a perfect, or even close fit, all will be left as lacking, and as such create a reduction in understandings and an over simplification (Brady and Brandy, 2001). DEspite this the search continues, with analogies for the many different types of business becoming popular titles on the best sellers lists as well as fashion items in the managers arsenal of tools. Analogies range form the more traditional scenarios such as marriage and orchestras to war, as well as those which are less traditional such as cheese, anthills and parenting (Flaherty, 2001).
