upon returning the finished product to the States, are higher. This affects a large percentage of the nation and thus should concern President Bush. In examining this issue, from the
perspective of a recent event, the following paper examines an article concerning Bush policy and how it is harming manufacturing and citizens in the United States. The policy he proposed
in a recent State of the Union address is "American Competitiveness Initiative." Bush Policy and Manufacturing "President Bushs policies have abandoned workers
dependent on manufacturing jobs, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm said Saturday in the Democrats weekly radio address" (Associated Press, 2006). The argument is that more needs to be done in relationship
to health care policy, trade agreements, and other changes that could help people, "especially automakers crucial to her state" (Associated Press, 2006). Granholm was quite disgruntled with Bush and
his lack of concern for the people of the county as it relates to the needs of many manufacturing conditions in the nation. She wants to see Bush "Fight for
fair trade. Fight for our manufacturers. Fight for our automakers. Fight for our American workers" and clearly envisions that he is doing nothing to help the people in real need
today in the nation (Associated Press, 2006). Without the help of the government and United States businesses who would perhaps take their work overseas, the simple workers of this
nation cannot survive. They need pensions protected and they need help with the rising cost of health care. They request enforcing international trade agreements and much more focus on the
