His works are considered confusing, and very allusive, as they all seem somewhat interconnected, and incredibly deep and full of multiple meanings. One of his most controversial, and also perhaps
most allusive, poems is "Burbank with a Baedeker: Bleistein with a Cigar." In the following paper we provide a brief look at the style, theme, and symbolism presented in this
poem. Style Perhaps the most obvious aspect of Eliots style in this poem is that which speaks of the allusive. It is a poem that seems to drift
from one image to another, though it is clearly separated into four lined stanzas. There is a flow to the poem that is very lyrical, as well as somewhat mystical,
as we are left wondering, for the most part, where the poem is going and what is going on. But, as one author indicates, "As in several early Eliot poems,
very little actually happens" (Sloane bur1-web.htm). Because nothing really happens, the style is very allusive and often confusing. However, when we examine the style as it pertains to the
imagery, we are presented with a substantial variety of possibilities. We note things such as "A lustreless protrusive eye" (Eliot 17) or "The rats are underneath the piles," (Eliot 22)
in combination with things such as "Money in furs. The boatman smiles" (Eliot 24) we are given an incredible style that leaves us with very powerful images, even if the
theme is allusive. Theme Many have argued, and perhaps solidly so, that much of Eliots poem is nothing but anti-Semitism sentiments. "His fame has been shadowed by accusations
