The first part of the consideration has to be is there a demand in the marketplace, or a gap that can be filled. Wine, as we have seen, is an increasing market. The average annual consumption at the moment it estimated at sixteen litres per head (Anonymous, 2002). This equates to less than two bottles per person per month (Anonymous, 2002). However, the forecast projects have shown that this is expected to increase to more that twenty litres annually per head (Anonymous, 2002). Therefore, we have a market that is also projected at increasing, and as such new entrant, or increased presences may be a viable options. When we look at the average spend, the largest section of the UK wine market tends to be on bottles costing ?3.99 or less.
