infrastructures need to be in place to support the ongoing operations of the teams. When applying these requirements to teams where the members are geographically dispersed across the globe and
where there may be cultural barriers the task becomes more complex. Therefore, the most effective approach to assessing international team building can start with the traditional theory and consider the
way that they may be applied in the international/global environment. The first consideration is in the way that the team members are chosen. The primary driver will be with
reference to the task which the team is being put together to perform, with the range of skills needed to operate in the team. In a local team, this may
be based on the skills and knowledge to the task (Flemming and Koppleman, 1996). However, when applied in the international/global environment the ability of the team members to operate in
an international/globalteam may also need to be considered. For example, this may include linguistic skills. It may be very difficult, especially if the team is small to have different team
members who do not have a common language. If the team is larger or there are skills needed which mean a language barriers present it will be necessary to ensure
that there are sufficient translating tools or resources available. Another consideration may be the way in which different potential team members may be able to deal with cultural differences. This
may favour team members that have had international experience, but those that are adaptable and able to take an international/global attitude can be considered (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007). The
