some theory or belief about afterlife. Some believe that there is no such thing as an afterlife, and others believe that an afterlife involves a heaven where wonders await the
believer. With that in mind the following paper examines the beliefs of Christianity and Buddhism as they involve the condition of death and an existence of an afterlife.
Christianity With Christianity we find that one of the most fundamental foundations for the belief system involved Jesus and his dying on the cross. Through his dying and then coming
back to life he essentially offers mankind the same reward. If they are faithful and true believers they can be saved from eternal damnation or eternal death and find themselves
in a glorious place that has no real description. According to one author who discusses the notion of an afterlife in the Christian faith, "You will live on in your
eternal soul and reap what you sow....Christianity" maintains "the notion of an eternal soul, a single lifetime, and eternal bliss or damnation" (Why Life-after-Death?). Perhaps one of the most
important things to realize in this faith is that which argues that this lifetime is the only lifetime. "Christians have only one life. This life is judged after death by
the way it was lived" (BBC World Service, 2003). If an individual has lived a bad life, refusing to accept Jesus as Savior and God as supreme being, acting accordingly
in their life on earth, they will be condemned to live eternity in Hell. Interestingly enough, however, the word hell is not a word that originally meant a fiery domain
of suffering but was merely a word for earth. So, perhaps Hell was nothing more than living ones eternity in the ground, dead. "Heaven is where the soul resides
