sales may be seen as irrelevant when we consider rights issues. Rights issues are the issues that take place when the shares or bonds are first sold, or offered, to
the public, or other institutions or investors. There has been no prior sale, and in these instances, the company is selling a portion of itself, or a guarantee in the
form of a bond, top borrow money, and the money realised will be going into the company. However, many companies will not have the correct level of experience to attempt
to undertake an offering themselves. Often this will be undertaken through a broker, either a specialised broker or a bank acting as a broker. Brokers in this market may also
be seen as market makers, as they undertake to create a market for a specific security. If we wish to consider new
issues and the way that there is a need for a broker, then we need to consider the role of the broker. The broker is an intermediary. The term intermediary
means someone who is a go between, in financial terms this can mean an individual or an organisation. Banks and building societies may act as intermediaries as may different types
of insurance or investment brokers (Howells, 1998). Some may specialise in the finding of loans sources whilst others may specialise in investments and assurance or insurance products.
