Americas most intriguing cities. New Orleans still remains a bedraggled mess in many areas, and recovery is slow and disappointing. This paper considers five questions that deal with the concept
of the evacuation of the city. Discussion The first question is this: Based on the concept of "democracy pragmatism" in public policy, what is the issue of the evacuation? Obviously
we need a definition of "democracy pragmatism," but there doesnt appear to be a definition of the two words used together anywhere. So, lets think about it. Pragmatism is defined
as a doctrine that "asserts that truth is to be determined by its practical implications. In other words, if a certain proposition ... produces practical results, then the proposition
is determined to be true" (Tsamis, 1999). There are obviously some objections to this theory: its possible to think of examples where the result is good but the method is
questionable, and philosophers were quick to object to it for that reason. For instance, Bertrand Russell said that pragmatism "was tantamount to blind obscurantism" (Tsamis, 1999). However, were not here
to argue that merits of the theory but to apply it to democracy, and then to New Orleans. If pragmatism is in essence a way to measure results, then
"democracy pragmatism" in public policy suggests that it is a way to measure the success of public policy with regard to the democratic process. With regard to the evacuation of
New Orleans, we can extrapolate that we are looking for a way to evacuate the city that gives the best result without violating the principles of democracy; that is, we
