the lump is suspicious. Sometimes, a lump is not indicative of breast cancer and is perhaps a sebaceous cyst that goes away during the course of the menstrual cycle, but
often the lump is something that needs further investigation. First, it should be said that symptoms of breast cancer may be aligned with a lump but other breast symptoms such
as swelling, thickening, dimpling or nipple tenderness or discharge may be indicative of breast cancer as well (Pfeuffer & Estrin, 2003). Again, while a biopsy may be taken, blood tests
also help in the diagnosis. Authors explain that a blood test can see if CA 27-29 levels are elevated (Pfeuffer & Estrin, 2003). If levels are high that could
indicate that breast cancer is a possibility and mammograms as well as the measure of other tumor marker levels will indicate whether or not the testing must go further (Pfeuffer
& Estrin, 2003). Biopsies are frequently used when there is a suspicious tumor in the breast. The doctor removes tissues or cells and then they are examined under a microscope

or incisional biopsy is when just a small part of the tissue is used ( Pfeuffer & Estrin, 2003). Another type of commonly used method is called a needle biopsy
where a needle is used to extract the tissue or fluid sample ( Pfeuffer & Estrin, 2003). When examining a patient with a potential problem, it helps to know the
possibility of cancer occurring in a particular patient. For example, while breast cancer does occur in males, it is rare ("Risk Factors for breast cancer," 2006). The risk for a
