incredibly futuristic in that particular time period in American society. It is a very powerful novel that offers a very negative look at what a "perfect" society could be in
the nation and how people could easily become little more than obedient drones, genetically engineered for their particular tasks. The following paper examines various aspects of this novel.
Characters One of the primary characters in the novel is Bernard Marx. Bernard belongs to the World State but yet he doesnt quite fit in for a variety of reasons.
In many ways he seems to serve as a bridge between the civilized world and the world of the Savages, thus offering the reader a sense of reason, and a
sense of the outsiders perspective as he questions things. He is also the character who fears having to leave the World State although he was interested in the world of
the Savages. There is John who is the leading Savage in the story. John is the product of a woman and mans
sexual relationship and was born and grew up in the world of savages although his mother once belonged to the World State and his father, unknown to him, still resides
there. He has grown up in a society that talks about the World State and so he is curious. He is a reader of Shakespeare and a man who is
clearly a product of his environment, which contrasts strongly to the society of the World State. The character of Helmholtz Watson is
somewhat similar to Bernard, although Helmholtz is far more passionate about his desire to learn more and work on his writing. He is a lecturer and he and Bernard get
