be seen in the way that as a brand is intangible, any argument will be subjective. If we take two well known brands, that of Nike, and also of Manchester
United Football club. Brands are important in terms of a companies financial performance. The use of branding is to increase the market share of a company by increasing the
recognition and the association with the positive aspects of the company and encourage the way in which loyalty is developed., From this perspective alone we may argue that the branding
itself of Manchester United may not need to be as great as Nike simply due to the way in which, as a football team, the loyalty is to the team
rather than the brand. Despite this, the brand may also be used as a way of attracting fans. The comparison may be difficult due to the different ways in
which we may seek to value the company. If we look at the value that is given a company and look at ratios that indicate perceptions against performance then we
may gain an insight. For example we may look at the market valuation that is given to a company, and then consider what the actual value of the company is
and deduct the physical asset. This can then be considered in terms of the actual amount, not as a percentage of the value of the company. Here we also have
to make an allowance for the different currencies, as the Nike accounts are complied in US Dollars and the Manchester United accounts are in sterling.
