structural form. Often, there is little interaction between those sections. The organization has a typical corporate hierarchy that is illustrated in some sort of a chart. It is a rigid
structure. It becomes a bureaucracy. The boundaryless organization does not suggest there are no boundaries but rather that boundaries become permeable and transparent (BNET Business Dictionary, 2010). This organization functions
more like an organism than a machine and behaviors are like those of an organic structure rather than a mechanical structure (USLegal, Inc., 2010). This structure promotes a free flow
of ideas and information across the permeable boundaries (BNET Business Dictionary, 2010). This model also encourages establishing partnerships internally and externally. Rather than group employees in strict divisions, they are
grouped based on their knowledge and competencies which are "centered around technology, information, and expertise" (USLegal, Inc., 2010). One practice that must be in place is team work. In
fact, the boundaryless model will not work unless employees are team players (USLegal, Inc., 2010). Employees must also be comfortable with some ambiguity and with a looser work structure that
supports and encourages linking with others and networking within and outside of the organization (USLegal, Inc., 2010). Employees work almost as consultants at time working on company-wide projects. Strategic
alliances are developed with suppliers and vendors and sometimes with competitors. The goal is a more effective organization. Technology is essential in this type of organization because some work will
be accomplished from a distance (USLegal, Inc., 2010). Some organizations already have virtual teams and they have an edge in developing a boundaryless organization. Gratton (2006) noted that innovation is
the mainstay of todays successful organization. She suggests that innovation is enhanced with boundaryless co-operation" (p. 65). In fact, Gratton (2006) wrote that boundaryless co-operation is necessary for innovation because
