of plastic bottles that come from consumers purchasing a great deal of bottled water. In a society where many people are becoming more and more environmentally conscious people are also
becoming more concerned about the waste produced by humans. At the same time, however, people are continuously buying bottled water. The following paper examines and reacts to the article.
Bottled Water As mentioned, this article essentially illustrates the problem of water bottles from bottled water. The article does not necessarily take sides in the argument but rather offers
the reader both sides, or the numerous sides, of this particular issue. The author illustrates how some cities are doing many things to reduce the amount of bottled water that
people purchase. For example, "New York has launched an ad campaign....sings the praises of tap water and gives residents a free stainless steel beverage container if they sign an online
pledge not to buy plastic water bottles" (Elejalde-Ruiz, 2008). The author also illustrates sides of the issue that indicate water bottles are clearly not the only type of plastic
people are using and thus should not be the target. In addition, the plastics are generally created using natural gas rather than oil, as many argue, and that recycling is
a very powerful aspect of the entire plastic industry. Or, as noted by the author in offering the words of another, "Bottled water should be treated like any other packaged
food product,...and not carry all the blame for the worlds environmental woes" (Elejalde-Ruiz, 2008). But, there is also the problem of gas consumption and pollution in transporting the bottled water
