To consider the tool and show its applications we will start by looking at the matrix itself and how it is used and then apply this to Apple Inc. 2. BCG Matrix The BCG Matrix is a tool which allows business units or products to be placed into one of four categories which are determined along two dimensions; market share and market growth. Stars may require a high level of marketing support and it is possible for them to develop into cash cows; these are where there is a low growth rate but high market share, a stage reached where the success of the star is sustained, but the market is more mature so grow it more constrained (Thompson, 2007).
