The government has begun an ambitious project, a fence across the border, in order to curtail the problem of illegal immigration, but it is this the correct answer in terms of social and economic goals? Examination of the issues involved indicate that it will not be readily solved by simplistic answers, such as the border fence, but rather that remedies should address both social concerns and the realities of this social, economic and political problem. Immigration policy, in general, that is, how it pertains to both legal and illegal immigrants, is hotly debated in American society.
