its purpose. Whitehead contends that Nehemiah hasnt received his proper due in many respects, often overshadowed by the more outspoken Ezra. And yet, this popular perception is actually
a misperception according to Whitehead, and he argues that Nehemiah was indeed a "man of action" and rivaled any other biblical figure in regards to spiritual devotion.
Furthermore, Whitehead comments on the personal character of Nehemiah, arguing that he was more likeable than Ezra in many respects but that the
Old Testament proves his stern and demanding nature as well. This is important because so much of Nehemiah is misunderstood, and therefore Whiteheads interrogation into Nehemiah the man is
an exercise in detailed analysis. What comes to the forefront of Whiteheads analysis is his tenuous and methodically investigation of
the facts, comparing and contrasting in order to arrive at the most logical judgment possible in regards to attribution of various events. For instance, Whitehead given a detailed analysis
of the prayers of Nehemiah versus the prayer of Ezra, and in this way calls much attention to their similarities, thus concluding that the possibility of their words actually being
those of the chronicler is in fact a possibility. Time and time again, Whitehead provides evidence of Nehemiahs action, which
according to this author is one of his most notable attributes. For instance, Whitehead shows the many instances throughout Nehemiahs reign as governor when he worked diligently to restore
