but unnoticed in the wake of so much secretive and criminal activity is a tragic story that Breslin tells with great satisfaction. BOOK REVIEW Eduardo Guttierez was born in
Mexico to a poor family as so many are. He wanted to make a better life for both himself and his family and decided the only way to do
that would be to go to the United States and get a job, making enough money to save up and come back home to start a new life. His
thoughts of his family were foremost in his mind when he decided to do this, and Breslins book paints a warm portrait of Guttierez as a caring if not shy
young man who had high hopes and dreams for his future and that of his familys. Finding work on a construction site in New York, Guttierez was making good pay
but it was soon evident there were many unscrupulous dealings going on. As Breslins book suggests, the inspectors were being paid, the contractors were building shoddy buildings, and nobody
was getting reported for any of it. Of course Guttierez had no knowledge of the workings that were going on around him, and he probably didnt want to. All
he wanted to do was to make enough money to go back home to his family and his life in Mexico. Guttierez lived a lonely and quiet existence according
to the author and as an illegal immigrant, Guttierez could take no chances by talking too much or befriending the wrong person. Perhaps that is why his death was hardly
