a book report on Rawls Where the Red Fern Grows. Book Report on Where the Red Fern Grows While Rawls story is about a boy, Billy, and his
dogs it is also a story that can attract female readers as well. It is because it is very universal and meaningful as a story of growing up and of
the love people have for their pets. It begins with a boy who wants coon dogs, hound dogs, so bad that it really almost makes him sick. His family cannot
afford to buy any such dogs, for hunting dogs are expensive and they are poor. The boy decides, once he sees an ad for puppies, that he will earn the
money himself. Billy does everything he can think of to make money, only a few cents at a time, for a very long time, two years in fact. He
does odd jobs and hunts without dogs to catch animals he can sell the hides from. His parents and his sister know nothing of his plans but his grandfather does:
"I asked him not to say anything to my father. He promised me he wouldnt" (Rawls 20). He finally has enough money to buy the puppies, two puppies, and he
sends it off anxiously awaiting their arrival. When he gets news they are at a post office he all but runs away from home, telling no one, to walk the
many miles to get them. The puppies did not cost as much as he thought and so he had extra money which he spent on items for his family, hoping
