poor, black and white, and yet has always dreamed of being a singular cultural melting pot. Obamas text is a must-read for anyone regardless of political party affiliation or
personal views on the 44th President of the United States. His is a unique story of a man who transcends race, culture, and religion. By the age of
ten, he had seen parts of the world most people only read about - Jakarta, Indonesia and Nairobi, Africa - and yet his travels always took him back to a
United States that was racially separatist in comparison. This is what elevates Dreams from my Father from other autobiographies because it is not only the story of one man,
but represents the evolving history of an American people haunted by their past much like Barack Obama. The title refers to Obamas father, Barack Hussein Obama Sr., who was a
significant if extremely distant presence in his sons life. While a student at the University of Hawaii, Obama met and married Kansas-born Caucasian Ann Dunham in 1961, and their
only child was born six months later. However, the marriage was short-lived and the senior Obama eventually returned to his African homeland, only visiting his son once at the
