Section 1: Introduction "Finance is the application of a number of financial and economic principles to maximize the wealth or overall value of a business" (Groppelli and Nikbakht, 2006; p. 3). The forms that financial analysis and the tools that financial decision makers choose to use will vary according to a variety of qualifiers. In the introductory section, the authors review business types and taxation methods, not only for information about those areas but also to illustrate the different approaches to finance that can be appropriate for one business structure but wholly inappropriate for another. Section 2: Valuation Key terms for this chapter - and thus the topics discussed - are future value, inflation, liquidity, present value, risk and securities.
