Rowling got there first. In Nimmos books there is a school, Bloors Academy, that reminds a reader of Hogwarts; plus there are the good kids and bad kids. Nimmos world
seems a little more unpleasant than Rowlings though, because characters switch sides several times in the series, so the characters are never quite sure who the enemy is. The children
in these books are all endowed with different powers such as being able to talk to animals or calling up storms; Charlie can talk to the people in photos and
paintings (Nimmo, 2003). Those children with powers are called "endowed" and those who do not have powers are "unendowed" (Nimmo, 2003). Henry is unendowed but Charlie is endowed (Nimmo, 2003).
Nimmo must be sick of comparisons with Harry Potter, but any series of books featuring a boy with magical or unusual talents will automatically be looked at very closely to
see if there are similarities, as indeed there are. But there are other differences as well, probably the most important being that Charlie Bone and Henry Yewbeam, who arrives mysteriously
at Bloors via the Time Twister, are related to the legendary Red King. In fact, readers are asked to deal with a great many characters with very complex relationships, bloodlines
and family trees, and part of the difficulty with the book is keeping everyone straight. The adventure begins when Henry Yewbeam is sent forward in time by his evil cousin
