the project in 2005. Airbus suffered a two-year delay and spent almost twice as much as Boeing. And, Airbus had financial and other help from the government. While Airbus tightened
control especially over its Tier 1 suppliers, Boeing was establishing strategic partnerships. In effect, Boeing was expanding its market base with their strategic process. Airbus adopted different strategies, such as
JIT, to make operations more efficient. By contrast, Boeing was still left with the problem of monitoring numerous suppliers. The two companies have a very different outlook on the
future of commercial flying. Boeing believes industry growth will be based on the point-to-point system while Airbus believes growth will be based on the hub-and-spoke system. Boeings philosophy is based
on the fragmentation of air travel and the existing congestion at airports. Airbus believes that the hub-to-hub pattern will rule out, especially in Asian countries. This is why the Dreamliner
is a long-haul plane powered by midsized twin engines. The different philosophies and forecasts for air travel dictated the type of plane each company designed and manufactured. Boeings can land
in any major airport but Airbus can only land in the very large airports. Boeing has marketed their Dreamliner as the future of airplanes with advanced technology, advanced materials and
longer flight ranges. Airbus markets based on comfort and number of passengers the A-380 can hold, over 500. This is in concert with their philosophies. Airbus promotes the suggestion that
because the A-380 carries so many more passengers than other commercial aircraft, there is no need to increase the number of flights from one place to another. However, they
