that she wear clothes one size larger than usual. This increased girth causes Lisa considerable distress and she is concerned about how her friends will accept her, due to
the fact that she perceives herself as appearing "fat." During her dialysis training program, she talked constantly about how "fat" she looked and avoided mirrors and looking at her abdomen.
Due to these factors, the nursing diagnosis of Body Image Disturbance (BID) was made. The following examination of literature pertaining to BID demonstrates the rationale behind this diagnosis, as
well as possible nursing interventions and programs available for helping Lisa in coping with this psychic disturbance that only exacerbates her stress over her overall medical situation. Definition of
