is a well known singer who died young. He did not go out with a bang or with a needle in his arm as so many rock stars do. Rather,
Marley, who exuded peace and happiness, unfortunately died of cancer at the age of 36. Yet, while his death saddened those close to him as well as his fans, his
legacy is reggae, and ska perhaps, and music genres that probably would not be present if it were not for this one great performer.
Slater (1994) asks whether or not the script would have been different had there been reggae without Marley. He admits that there is a temptation to conclude
that Marleys place in the cosmos was such that it is hard to envision the mantle of leadership resting on other shoulders (1994). Indeed, while there might have been reggae
without Marley, perhaps it would not be known by most except the locals. Bob Marley was not only at the top of his genre, but his music made pop charts
in the United States. He was able to break through barriers that other musicians could not. Marley was at the top of his game, but how did he get there?
What is his story? How did he become famous? His rise to fame was perhaps accidental, as he followed his religion and his heart before he pursued a life where
he would simply become rich and famous. Yet, he would after years of work become a stunning international success that was propelled by his immense talent.
