lot of people can sympathize with him. This paper will try to solve the mystery of what Bluetooth is, who invented it and when, how its used, how secure it is and most importantly of all, where did it get that name? Discussion What is Bluetooth? Bluetooth offers a connection that allows a lot of devices to talk to each other wirelessly (Franklin & Layton, 2009). When two or more devices need to communicate, they must agree on a great many variables before they can "talk" to each other (Franklin & Layton, 2009). The first thing they have to know is how they will connect physically: are they going to talk through wires, or a wireless connection? (Franklin & Layton, 2009). If theyre going with a wired connection, how many wires do they need: two, eight, 25? (Franklin & Layton, 2009). Once thats decided they also need to figure out how much data "will be sent at a time; "serial ports send data 1 bit at a time, while parallel ports send several bits at once" (Franklin & Layton, 2009). The parties to the conversation also need to know "what the bits mean and whether the message they receive is the same message that was sent" (Franklin & Layton, 2009). In order to solve all these problems, a set of commands called a protocol must be developed (Franklin & Layton, 2009). Bluetooth offers an alternative to all this. Bluetooth is a networking standard "that works at two levels: It provides agreement at the physical level -- Bluetooth is a radio-frequency standard" (Franklin & Layton, 2009). Second, it provides agreement "at the protocol level," so that there is agreement on when data is sent, how much, and that the messages sent and received are identical (Franklin & Layton, 2009). ...
