which signaled the end to the peace which had existed in Europe since 18712. After World War I, things changed dramatically. Four European empires had collapsed3 . However, Germany
seemed to grow stronger. By the time World War II would begin, the troubled nation was looking good. Germany devoured Czechoslovakia, Austria, and portions of France and then later blitzkrieged
the French, British and Dutch, effectively taking over all of Central Europe4 . Germany used a certain style of warfare, called blitzkrieg, a term that has since been adopted to
describe later wartime events, with the use of similar strategy. But truly, Germany could claim Blitzkrieg as an original concept, one that was instrumental in Germanys wartime role. While the
strategy was good, and copied by others later on, Germany was not so successful. The Allies won in Europe partially due to Russias blows delivered to Germany, the strength of
the British, as well as the air and armaments superiority 5 . Germany also had some baggage. Men born between 1901 and 1913, ideal candidates to fight the war,
had no training due to the restrictions in the Treaty of Versailles6 . Thus, they had to train on weekends and in the summer7 . While not perfect, it was
