children and adolescents learn from older adolescents and young adults. Black neighborhood stereotypes abound. Those who come from the "hood" learn certain patterns. Black culture in general is one that
is patriarchal in nature, dictating what black masculinity is really about. When one focuses on black youths social power, how they "act tough," and their relationship with their peers, it
seems as if there is a pattern. There are certain ideas that many black men hold as truths. Yet, while black adults grow into this extreme sense of masculinity, it
seems that assimilation, and monetary success, takes away from that street Bravado that the males usually crave. What happens is that some black men take on the characteristics of white
culture. Of course, the reality is not quite that extreme and men take on different values to different extent. First, it is important to look at black masculinity. The masculinity
that is aligned with black culture is often exemplified by music videos. Black men sing while black women dance in the background. The dancing is often provocative and the men
seem to be very masculine. Yet, while this may appear to be harmless fare, the black hip hop or rap videos seem to exhibit the most extreme misogynistic trends. Girls
are often scantily clad, and dance provocatively. They are often dubbed "hoes" and the men are thought to be "pimps." The lyrics are often indicative of this manly prototype that
pimps out girls and is in control of all the money. For example, the song "Runaway" by Ludacris tells the story of little girls who are sexuality abused, whose mothers
are whores or drug addicts and for which there are few male role models. All of the stories relayed in the song are negative, suggesting that the neighborhood is replete
