Blacks have faced discrimination
on practically every front of American society. This discrimination relates to the fact that blacks were originally brought to this country to work as slaves. They were regarded
as little more than cattle or any other piece of property. After the Civil War, of course, blacks were emancipated and took up their lives as free Americans.
Their freedom, however, didnt immediately guarantee them equality. Many in American society continued to discriminate against blacks in both the status quo and in some unusual aspects of American
life. One of the more unusual impacts of discrimination was felt by black cowboys, by men that made their livelihood by working cattle and even by competing in rodeos.
History reveals that the discrimination ladled out in some areas of the United States after the Civil War was more obvious
than in others. The Deep South, of course, has the reputation of having been the roughest on blacks. Sometimes technically defined as including only South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama,
