a horse as he takes many journeys in his life, moving from one master to another. The following paper presents a report on the book. Black Beauty Black Beautys
story begins when he is born. It is not really told in present time, but told through the memories of Black Beauty as he recalls his years thus far. He
tells the reader how his first home was a very kind and gentle home, but also how he is told that not all masters are as nice as the one
he has. After he is a few years old he is sold to his second master. When he arrives at his second home a female horse, a mare, comes
to him and tells him it is his fault that she was turned out of her stall, and she also tells him that he is nothing more than a colt.
He replies, "I beg your pardon...I have turned no one out; the man who brought me put me here, and I had nothing to do with it; and as to
my being a colt, I am turned four years old and am a grown-up horse" (Sewell Chapter 4). He also tells her that he has never had any negative words
with any other horse, indicating he is a horse that is used to being treated nicely. Throughout the book Black Beauty is essentially bought and sold by many different
masters. He finds himself beaten and abused, and he engages in many different jobs. At one point he was all but broken at the knees and then healed. He was
then sold as a job horse: "I was a job horse, and was let out to all sorts of people who wished to hire me" (Sewell Chapter 28). He was
