Even worse, is the fact that Lomborg often appears to be using arbitrary guesswork and a certain measure of out and out deception to make a point that has done little more than demonstrate just how inarguable the facts are that he is arguing against. Nothing is Wrong with the Environment!? To even type the phrase "nothing is wrong with the environment" goes against the grain of simple common sense of the average person. Statistics, however they are manipulated are of little value when one has personally seen the impact clear-cut forest or strip-mined hillsides. And regardless of how cynical one is about the media, the environmental disasters such as the terrible oil spills that kill millions of sea birds and ocean animals, the chemical spills that kill a river, or the end result of industrial waste are not fabricated simply to shock or outrage television viewers. Environmental destruction is certainly not a new phenomenon and Lomborg does not argue that it has not taken place throughout the centuries. Obviously, it has been going on since the first days of human habitation and human effort to control the planets natural resources for its own purposes. The past several decades have shown that there is considerable evidence that science and technology can create more efficient ways to coexist with nature and actually reduce environmental degradation. For example, the shift from carbon-based energy to atom-based energy has resulted in less pollution.
