and social processes interact. Biological processes describe the changes in body functions and structures that occur over time. Psychological factors describe the development and function of "cognition, personality and emotions,"
while social processes in development indicate an individuals environment or social context and the position of that individual within a social structure (Whitbourne, 2008). In other words, the biopsychosocial approach
to human behavior sees it as resulting from the complex interplay of all the factors influencing an individuals life development, that is, not simply their biological development, but how that
development fits in with psychological, cognitive, emotional and social needs and characteristics. 2. An individuals identify is defined according to three key developmental domains, which are "biological, psychological and social"
